Industry sources suggest that if Carphone Warehouse succeeds in getting control of internet group, Tiscali, Vodafone is developing a partnership proposal to Carphone Warehouse which might see BT cut back as Vodafone’s main partner for consumer broadband provision. The plan might even see BT dropped altogether as Vodafone’s major source of telecoms infrastructure in the UK - worth millions per annum to BT. Years ago, a Japanese skier insisted on attempting to ski down Everest. The humourist, Clive James, wrote of the inevitable outcome: ‘Great to see someone not only asking for it but getting it’. Let’s hear it for BT.
